Whistlestop

Whistlestop
28 Jupiter St., Bel Air Village
Makati City, Metro Manila
Philippines

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon when we felt the urge to have merienda. We wondered what place we knew would be open and we could only think of restaurants in malls, which we weren’t dressed for. We drove past by Jupiter just to see if any restos were open, luckily Whistlestop is open 24/7.

Whistlestop is located beside starbucks (Edsa side) Jupiter. You won’t miss it. Plus, it has this big neon sign that says OPEN. Parking is free and spacious – no problem there. When you enter, you feel an almost “pub” like aura and true enough they serve cheap beer. Here is what we ate…

Vintage Tapa – It is a spin from your ordinary Tapa because it’s shredded. Much like Sinangag Express’s tapa. Though the portions were small, the flavor did not disappoint.

Banana Turon – If you think that the pieces in the picture are huge, you are correct. Normally you’d find that Turons these large don’t have much in the inside, but these are full. And that’s not the best part – they are only Php80 for 6 pieces.

Whistlestop Iced tea and Strawberry Milkshake – You guys are better off trying the Iced Tea. It’s unique to Whistlestop and we must say it’s pretty good. It’s also served in big glass so no need to order more or have it bottomless (if they allow). The Strawberry Milkshake did not taste like strawberries. It had more milk and sugar than the fruit, so a no-no for us.

UPDATE:

We were hungry at 9pm and we could only think of one restaurant that's 24hrs and wasn't fast food so Chuck and I went to Whistlestop to get dinner.

We ordered Hungarian bites. It was really good. See the picture? We forgot to take a  photo of it because we ate it so fast! Good thing we remembered! Good with rice as well. :)

We also ordered the Chilli dog. This is the best Chilli dog we ever tasted! Chilli is really good. They were very generous with the cheese as well. Yummy choices! Fries are not so great. Felt really oily. But no worries, because the Chilli dog is really something.

Verdict:

- A barkada restaurant. Great for all nighters and mid night snacks to take off the buzz due to partying.

- Their staff is friendly and attentive. Just a minor mishap on the bill, but they quickly sorted it out for us.

- Price for signature dishes is high, but the others are okay.

- It will definitely be a place we’d go to after all the bars have closed.
